Fault Analysis and Localization

What Can You Do?

Servo Module Errors

Possible Solutions and Tips

  • Warm the device with an external source. If it turns on, this indicates a weak power supply that needs repair.
  • Check fuses.
  • Check the voltage supply of 3 x 200 or 220 volts, depending on the model.

Further error messages can be found in the alarm list available for download at the end of this page.

Possible Solutions and Tips

  • Replace the motor as a test.
  • Check cable connections.
  • Run in jog mode without load.

If these measures do not help, the fault is usually in the power stage of the drive module.

Further error messages can be found in the alarm list available for download at the end of this page.

Handling Parameters

When parameterizing, it is crucial to save the settings early and document jumper and key settings.

What should be considered when parameterizing?

  • In most cases, the parameters are stored in the drive or controller.
  • Obtain the necessary documentation or software for parameter settings.

The Typical Repair Process for Mitsubishi Drive Modules

Fault localization using a multimeter.

The repair process for drive modules includes the following steps

  • Preventive overhaul - replacement of all necessary defective and worn parts.
  • Intensive cleaning.
  • Comprehensive final and load tests on our test stands.
  • Parameter matching or restoration.
  • Filling out documentation and checklists.

High-Quality Spare Parts for High-Quality Repairs

For Mitsubishi drive modules, we replace

  • Electrolytic capacitors
  • Large buffer capacitors
  • Relays
  • Current measuring modules
  • Optocouplers

Additionally, we replace certain parts that have proven to be frequently failing over multiple repairs and are therefore statistically selected for replacement.

To counteract shortages and discontinuations, we have processoriented software solutions that monitor our inventory. We order some parts in advance, and for series repairs, we even secure sufficient spare parts for a year to always have a large stock available.

Quality and Level of Repair

Professional repair requires the use of a test stand. For each new series, specially adapted and complex test equipment is developed. The devices are thoroughly checked for functionality by undergoing a long-term load test.
Control of the test procedure and analysis at the Mitsubishi MR-J2S test station

The test is conducted at a test stand that simulates the processes like in a real machining plant.

During the test, the following are checked:

  • BUS control
  • POT/NOT
  • Encoder connection
  • Alarm conditions
  • Speed
  • Current and voltage consumption
  • Temperature
  • Parameters

We Continuously Expand Our Repair Portfolio with New Series

As drive and power electronics are often prematurely discontinued, you may find yourself under pressure to deliver replacements to your customers in a timely manner. We support you in analyzing bottlenecks and work together on optimal solutions.

The typical process includes:

  • Development of test stands and procedures
  • Organization of spare parts
  • Preventive repair at the component level
  • New development or re-engineering of modules or complete devices if necessary

Frequently Asked Questions

Drive module repair

In which quality/level are load tests performed at your company?
Complex and specially adapted test equipment is developed for each new series. Devices are tested with long-term load test thoroughly checked for functionality. Get an idea of our test facilities.
Do you have special spare parts, which are necessary for qualitative repair?
In times of shortages and discontinuations, we have process-oriented software solutions that monitor our inventories. We order some parts in advance, for series repairs even for 1 year, so that we can fall back on a large stock of spare parts. Certain modules are re-engineered by us.
Can you parameterize the devices?
If possible, a copy of the parameters is always read out and stored upon receipt. After successful repair, the data is compared and in case of exchange or sale, original parameters are transferred or restored to the new device. We have all the necessary hardware as well as software applications to parameterize Yaskawa devices according to the specifications.
What processes are involved in the repair of drive modules?
The repair process for drive modules includes, but is not limited to, the following:
  • Preventive overhaul - replacement of all necessary defective and used parts. E.g. electrolytic capacitors, transistors, optoelectronic components.
  • Intensive cleaning
  • Extensive final and load tests on our test stands
  • Parameter adjustment or parameter recovery
