Error Analysis and Localization

What can you do?

Possible Causes of Errors in Servo Modules

Possible Solutions and Tips

  • Test the motor by reconnecting it.
  • Check cable connections.
  • Run in jog mode without load.

If these actions do not help, the error is usually in the power stage of the drive module.

Further error messages can be found in the alarm list, which is available for download at the end of this page.

Possible Solutions and Tips

  • Warm the device with an external source. If it turns on, this indicates a weak power supply that needs repair.
  • Check fuses.
  • Check the power supply of 3 x 200 or 220 volts depending on the model.

Further error messages can be found in the alarm list, which is available for download at the end of this page.

Possible Solutions and Tips

  • Free the motor from the shaft or belt and test it at different speeds.
  • Disconnect the motor connection cables and completely free the motor from load. Then turn it by hand.
If the motor is still stiff or makes unusual noises, the ball bearings may be defective.
  • Check motor insulation and windings for flashovers.
  • Check the encoder.

Further error messages can be found in the alarm list, which is available for download at the end of the form.

Possible Solutions and Tips

  • Visually inspect the encoder area for dirt, and if necessary, have it cleaned by a specialized company.
  • Check encoder signals: For older motors with analog encoders, read sinusoidal diagrams with an oscilloscope.
For serial encoders, check the operating voltages as well.
  • Have the encoder replaced.

Further error messages can be found in the alarm list, which is available for download at the end of the form.

The Typical Repair Process for Okuma Servo and Spindle Drives, as well as Spindle Motors

Completely disassembling the device into its individual parts

The repair process includes the following steps:

Servo and Spindle Drives
  • Preventive overhaul - replacing all necessary defective and worn-out parts.
  • Intensive cleaning.
  • Comprehensive final and load tests on our test benches.
  • Parameter matching or restoration of parameters.
  • Completion of documentation and checklists.
Spindle Motors
  • Preventive overhaul - replacing all necessary defective and worn-out parts. Renewing ball bearings and seals.
  • Intensive cleaning, stripping paint, and degreasing.
  • Repainting.
  • Comprehensive final and long-term tests on our test benches, followed by final adjustments.
  • Completion of documentation and checklists.

High-Quality Spare Parts for High-Quality Repairs

The following spare parts are replaced:

Servo and Spindle Drives
  • Electrolytic capacitors
  • Large buffer capacitors
  • Relays
  • Current measuring modules
  • Optocouplers
Spindle Motors
  • Encoders
  • Encoder cables
  • Encoder connectors
  • Resolvers
  • Brakes
  • Ball bearings
  • Shaft seals
  • O-rings
  • Power cables
  • Power connectors

Additionally, we replace certain components that have proven to be particularly prone to failure over multiple repairs and are therefore replaced preventively based on our extensive experience.

To avoid shortages and discontinuations, we have process-oriented software solutions that monitor our inventory. We order some parts in advance, and for serial repairs, we even secure enough spare parts for a year to always have access to a large stock.

Quality and Level of Repair

A professional repair requires the use of a test bench. For each new series, specially customized and complex testing equipment is developed. The devices are thoroughly checked for functionality by undergoing a long-term stress test.

The test is conducted on a test bench that simulates the processes as in a real processing plant.

For Servo and Spindle Drives
  • BUS control
  • POT/NOT (positive and negative over travel)
  • Encoder connection
  • Alarm states
  • Speed
  • Current and voltage consumption
  • Temperature
  • Parameters
For Spindle Motors
  • Encoder connection
  • Alarm states
  • Speed
  • Current and voltage consumption
  • Temperature
  • Vibration
  • Noise level

We are continuously expanding our repair portfolio with new series

As drive and power electronics are often discontinued prematurely, you may be under pressure to deliver replacement parts to your customers on time. We assist you in analyzing bottlenecks and work together on optimal solutions.

The typical process includes:

  • Development of test benches and procedures
  • Organization of spare parts
  • Preventive repair at the component level
  • Re-development or re-engineering of modules or complete devices if necessary

Frequently Asked Questions

Drive module repair

Complex and specially adapted test equipment is developed for each new series. Devices are tested with long-term load test thoroughly checked for functionality. Get an idea of our test facilities.
In times of shortages and discontinuations, we have process-oriented software solutions that monitor our inventories. We order some parts in advance, for series repairs even for 1 year, so that we can fall back on a large stock of spare parts. Certain modules are re-engineered by us.
If possible, a copy of the parameters is always read out and stored upon receipt. After successful repair, the data is compared and in case of exchange or sale, original parameters are transferred or restored to the new device. We have all the necessary hardware as well as software applications to parameterize Yaskawa devices according to the specifications.
The repair process for drive modules includes, but is not limited to, the following:
  • Preventive overhaul - replacement of all necessary defective and used parts. E.g. electrolytic capacitors, transistors, optoelectronic components.
  • Intensive cleaning
  • Extensive final and load tests on our test stands
  • Parameter adjustment or parameter recovery

Further information

We document the repair process for every order. You can download a detailed description of the process here.
We are continuously looking for new areas of activity. After consultation with the customer, we determine the necessary steps for a safe and qualitative repair
It may happen that error messages continue to be displayed with the connected device. Already during the analysis of the errors, we give the customers suggestions for solutions for different malfunctions and errors. error cases, if we suspect further error causes. Errors and faults are documented, among other things, in the log file of the respective device, which may indicate, for example, encoder communication problems, cable defects or overloads.
Many of our customers have defective devices of the same model in larger quantities. We have optimized our processes for series repair and have the capacity to repair many devices in parallel quickly and to a high repair many devices in parallel.

Cost & Warranty

The repair process itself represents a high degree of technical complexity, which we always want to master with a qualitative and long-term solution for you. solution for you. However, the maintenance of these quality characteristics requires, to agree on a repair flat rate or standard repair price. We communicate honestly and transparently all the information you need. For example, prices, previous and completed work steps, delivery times, etc.
Basically we give 12 months warranty.
