Our Path to Flexible Working Hours – How the Flextime Policy Came to Be

Since May 1, 2025, our company has implemented a flexible working hours policy known as flextime. But why did we take this step, and how did it all come about?

It all began several months ago when we noticed that our employees were increasingly asking for more flexible working conditions. The fixed working hours we had in place were difficult for many employees to reconcile with their personal obligations. This led to the idea of introducing a flexible flextime policy.

The Path to the Decision

After initial discussions within the team and with management, it became clear that having core working hours as a common framework would be ideal. We decided on a mandatory presence from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. To still offer the greatest possible flexibility, we set generous working time boundaries: the earliest start at 6:30 a.m. and the latest end at 5:30 p.m.

Introducing Flextime – What’s Changing?

Since the introduction of the flextime policy, all employees have maintained a personal time account, where they record their working hours and any deviations from the core hours. This allows for a high degree of personal responsibility and transparency. A time account balance of up to +/- 8 hours is permitted. Hours can also be carried over to the following month, but must not exceed the overall limit of +/- 8 hours.

Positive Feedback from the Team

The feedback from our team was extremely positive right from the start. Many reported feeling relieved that they could now attend to private matters like doctor appointments, administrative tasks, or family obligations with significantly less stress. Productivity also appears to benefit from the new arrangement, as employees can now work during their individual peak concentration times.

Initial Experiences

Just a few weeks after the introduction, the first positive effects became apparent: less stress, higher satisfaction, and a noticeably improved working atmosphere. Employees reported feeling more comfortable and balanced overall.

We are very pleased to have taken this step and are optimistic about the future. We believe that the flextime policy will continue to contribute to a sustainably positive development in our company.
