Mitsubishi MDS-D-SP-200 spindle drive: alarm 17 repaired
A Mitsubishi MDS-D-SP-200 spindle drive was sent to industrypart for repair with alarm 17. We reproduced the reported fault during incoming inspection. Further diagnosis identified a defect in the internal power supply. After repair and overhaul, the unit passed a test with a spindle at our test bench. The alarm did not recur during that test.

Incoming inspection and workshop findings
The reported alarm could be reproduced during our incoming inspection. The subsequent examination identified a defect in the unit’s internal power supply. This specific finding provided the basis for the repair.
| Stage | Documented result |
|---|
| Incoming inspection | Reported fault with alarm 17 confirmed |
| Diagnosis | Defective internal power supply |
| Repair and overhaul | Fault corrected, unit thoroughly cleaned and wear-prone components renewed |
| Final test | Successful test with a spindle; alarm did not recur |
Alarm 17 and the internal power supply
The manufacturer’s alarm definition identifies the affected functional area. The internal power supply defect is the result of our examination of this particular unit. Alarm 17 alone therefore does not identify a specific failed component.
Electronic measurement and signal-processing circuits require a stable supply. An internal supply fault can also affect the processing of measurement signals, providing a possible technical link to current feedback. The affected supply rail and individual component are not documented for this report, so no more specific component-level cause is claimed.

| 33 | Main-circuit bus overvoltage | General reference | 6-5 |

Additional cross-check: the supplied extract “Alarme _ Troubleshooting-40.pdf”, pp. 6-4, 6-5 and 6-13 (file pages 2, 3 and 11), confirms the alarm meanings used here. The extract identifies the MDS-D/DH series but does not specify a separate revision.
Repair, cleaning and overhaul
We corrected the fault, thoroughly cleaned the spindle drive and overhauled it. Wear-prone components were also renewed. After completing the work, we tested the unit with a spindle at our test bench. The test was successful and alarm 17 did not recur.
Planning preventive maintenance
Professional condition assessment, cleaning and preventive overhaul can help identify developing ageing and wear. The scope and intervals depend on the condition of the unit, operating conditions and manufacturer instructions. The supply fault found here does not mean that every unit displaying alarm 17 requires the same component replacements.
