Haas HFD-4 32-5558D: burn damage repaired and complete overhaul
A failed charging circuit, damaged power modules and capacitors, and burn damage on the PCB: this Haas Vector Drive 40HP / HFD-4, identified as 32-5558D or 93-32-5558D, arrived with extensive damage. We were nevertheless able to repair the unit and carry out a complete preventive overhaul.

Charging-circuit failure with consequential damage
Our inspection identified a failed charging circuit for the power capacitors. According to our workshop findings, this had caused damage to several power modules and capacitors. The PCB also showed clear burn damage. The detail photographs document the affected areas before repair.
Contamination and poor ventilation
We attributed the failure to component ageing. In our assessment, heavy contamination and insufficient ventilation were major contributors to that ageing. The before photographs show deposits on the housing, around ventilation openings and inside the unit.
The general relationship between contamination and thermal problems is also addressed in the Haas vector-drive maintenance instructions: dust deposits can contribute to overheating. The specific assessment of this case is based on our workshop inspection.
Complete preventive overhaul
Despite the extensive damage, we repaired the drive and carried out a complete preventive overhaul. All power components and power capacitors were replaced. The PCB areas affected by the burn damage were also repaired as part of the work. The unit was then thoroughly cleaned.
The after photographs show a clean drive with an almost new appearance. The overhaul went well beyond cosmetic cleaning: the essential work was the electronic repair and complete replacement of the power components and capacitors.
What this repair case illustrates
Contaminated ventilation paths and poor heat dissipation should be investigated early. Once electronic damage has occurred, cleaning alone does not repair failed components. This unit required a comprehensive repair and preventive overhaul, which we were able to complete.
General alarm references
No alarm code was supplied for this repair case. The following Haas CHC references are general orientation only, subject to the installed control and drive version. They do not establish an alarm for this unit.
