Haas HFD-2 32-5559E: overload at 3,000 rpm resolved
Running at 5,000 rpm, but immediately tripping on overload at 3,000 rpm: this Haas Vector Drive 20HP / HFD-2 arrived with an unusual speed-dependent fault. The designations supplied are 32-5559E and 93-32-5559E. We identified the cause in the power stage, carried out a preventive overhaul and tested the unit over an extended period. The customer subsequently confirmed that it had been working for weeks.

Power-stage fault at particular frequencies
Our workshop investigation found that some components in the power stage no longer operated reliably at certain frequencies, causing the stage to enter an alarm state. This explains why operation at one speed did not establish reliable operation across the other operating points. The diagnosis describes our findings for this particular unit; it is not a general diagnosis for every speed-dependent overload alarm.
Preventive overhaul and extended testing
We preventively overhauled the power stage. The drive was then tested over an extended period in our test machine, including the speeds that had previously caused problems. The supplied test footage documents the unit in the test setup. The photographs show its condition before and after repair.
Customer feedback after return
We also followed up with the customer after the unit was returned. The customer reported that it had been functioning for weeks. This feedback supplements our workshop testing with information from actual operation.
Why the exact fault description matters
Information about the speeds at which a drive runs or trips can help target the investigation. In this case, a test at only one apparently successful operating point would not have been enough to assess the reported fault.
General alarm reference
No numerical alarm code was supplied for this case. Haas lists alarm 123, SPINDLE DRIVE FAULT, in its CHC vector-drive troubleshooting guide. This is a general reference for the applicable control version, not a reported code for this unit. The wording “overload” alone does not identify a numerical alarm.
