Repair case Mitsubishi Spindle Drive MDS-C1-SPM-110 no function, no display
The submitted MDS-C1-SPM-110 had completely failed.
The customer reported that the machine fuses kept tripping. Only after removing the drive could the CNC system be restarted.
Inspection revealed no LED indicators, no operation. Inside, we found severe destruction in the power module. The internal power supply was also damaged. Such failures typically occur when the IPM shorts out, causing secondary damage.
The repair process included:
- Full disassembly with documentation.
- Cleaning of PCBs and heatsinks.
- Replacement of power module (IPM, driver ICs, PSU components).
- Preventive replacement of capacitors, optocouplers, connectors.
- Installation of new fans.
- Intermediate testing (insulation measurement, signal tracing).
Final load tests at the test bench:
- Simulated machining cycles.
- Thermal monitoring.
- Signal verification.
- Hours of load operation.
The drive was successfully restored and returned with a full test protocol.
Preventive Measures for Customers
- Regular fan and filter replacement (every 12β24 months).
- Cabinet cleaning to prevent dust buildup.
- Annual insulation measurements.
- Check all connectors and cables, especially motor and encoder.
- Inspect seals against humidity ingress.
- Preventive replacement of capacitors and relays after 7β10 years.
Conclusion
This case shows:
A defective spindle drive can block an entire CNC system. Through professional repair with preventive replacement, functionality and long-term stability were restored.
Regular maintenance saves costs, protects machines, and minimizes downtime.
