Using Artificial Intelligence for Reading Nameplates

In this article, I’d like to share an exciting practical example of how we recently successfully implemented artificial intelligence (AI) within our company. Our IT specialists developed an innovative module specifically designed for registering devices upon their arrival at our warehouse and shipping entrance.

Challenges of Manual Data Entry

Previously, capturing and decoding the nameplates of incoming devices was a time-consuming and error-prone task. This became particularly challenging when dealing with dirty, wrinkled, or damaged labels. Furthermore, mistakes frequently occurred due to the difficulty in distinguishing between similar-looking characters such as “O” and “0.”

Automated Solution through AI Support

With our new AI-supported module, these challenges are now a thing of the past. Our AI automatically analyzes images of the nameplates and reliably extracts all relevant information. This prevents confusion between similar characters, accurately and automatically populating database fields. As a result, our employees save valuable time, which they can now dedicate to other important tasks.

The developed module directly accesses our proprietary company database, immediately providing the information for further processing. For this purpose, we utilize our specialized software, Rdocu, which is perfectly aligned with our internal infrastructure. This ensures not only efficiency but also high data security.
