HAAS Servo Drive: Expansion of Our Repair Portfolio

We are pleased to expand our service offering: From now on, we can repair an even wider range of HAAS servo drives. Several successful repairs have already demonstrated that we can provide our customers with reliable solutions at fixed flat rates.

Insights from Our Repair Workshop

Our work with HAAS servo drives has made us aware of a recurring issue: severe fire damage to the devices, often rendering them irreparable. We frequently receive such defective drives for inspection, which led us to investigate the cause of these damages in more detail.

Analysis of the Cause of Damage

Through extensive investigations, simulations, and discussions with our customers, we were able to identify the root cause of these major defects. The problem originates in the primary power supply: Over time, a specific component gradually loses its original value due to aging. Initially, this manifests as sporadic error messages that can be temporarily resolved by restarting the machine.

Over time, the defect worsens, triggering a chain reaction:

The voltage in the primary power supply rises uncontrollably.
A crucial feedback mechanism fails, causing the voltage in the output stage leading to the motor to increase further.
The final stage reaches a critical load threshold, ultimately resulting in a fire or explosion of the components.

The result: Irreparable damage to the circuit board. While we have not encountered cases where the entire machine caught fire, theoretically, this is possible.

Our Recommendation: Preventive Maintenance

To prevent such total failures, we recommend regular inspection and servicing of your HAAS servo drives. Early maintenance can help avoid unexpected production downtimes and save significant costs for replacement devices.
