Another Fake – Yaskawa AC Servo Motor

Fault Report: Brake no longer engages Yaskawa AC Servo Motor SGMGH-13DCA6H-OY.

A customer brought us a Yaskawa Motor reporting that the brake no longer engaged. Upon thorough inspection, we discovered that the brake remained permanently open because the brake pad had completely dissolved.

Surprising Findings during Disassembly

When disassembling the motor, we immediately noticed it had previously been improperly opened and incorrectly reassembled. Particularly striking was the installation of a 90-volt brake, whereas the manufacturer’s specifications clearly required a 24-volt brake.

Background of the Machine

The customer had purchased the machine second-hand some time ago and had used it relatively trouble-free until recently. Occasional short interruptions occurred but could be resolved by restarting the machine. Unfortunately, the customer could not provide further technical details, as he was merely the user and had limited technical understanding.

A Known Issue: Fake Motors from the Far East

This incident adds to numerous similar cases where motors arrive at our facility looking superficially intact but are technically flawed and often incorrectly equipped. Motors from Asian production are especially prone to issues caused by unsuitable or incorrect components, quickly leading to failures.
